Apple TV updated with HBO GO and WatchESPN

Apple TV updated with HBO GO and WatchESPN - Jason O'Grady

Apple has announced that HBO GO and WatchESPN are now available directly on the $99 Apple TV.

HBO GO users get unlimited access to their favorite HBO shows, including HBO original programming, hit movies, sports, documentaries, comedy specials and more. Just like with its popular iOS app (free, App Store),?HBO GO requires a subscription to HBO through a participating television provider to view its content.

The addition of the two content giants significantly extends the programming options on Apple's set top box, which the company previously referred to only as a "hobby." Apple?has sold more than 13 million Apple TVs since it debuted in 2007 and CEO Tim Cook recently changed his message on the tiny black device.

When asked about Apple TV at the D11 conference, Cook told Kara Swisher and Walt Mossberg?"I?m going to leave that alone," adding "but it continues to be an area of great interest to us."

Apple TV offers over 60,000 movies and over 230,000 TV episodes, as well as the world?s largest collection of music on the iTunes Store.?Apple TV also offers content from Hulu Plus, Netflix, Vimeo, YouTube, Flickr and?live sports from MLB, NBA and NHL.

The Apple?press release?also notes that?iTunes users have downloaded more than one billion TV episodes and 380 million movies from iTunes to date, and that they purchase over 800,000 TV episodes and over 350,000 movies per day.
