U.S., Germany confident on euro zone reforms: statement

MUNKMARSCH, Germany (Reuters) - Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner and German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble expressed confidence on Monday in the ability of euro zone member states to implement reforms and achieve greater integration to overcome their debt crisis.

In a statement issued after talks on the German North Sea island of Sylt, where Schaeuble is holidaying, the two men commended the efforts of Ireland and Portugal to put their public finances on a more stable basis and also cited recent structural reforms by Spain and Italy.

"(The two men) emphasized the need for ongoing international cooperation and coordination to achieve sustainable public finances, reduce global macroeconomic imbalances, and restore growth," the statement also said.

Study: U.S. Military Men More Likely To Identify As Women ? CBS DC

WASHINGTON (CBSDC) ??Male U.S. veterans are twice as likely to identify themselves as female compared to male civilians, according to a new study from a leading researcher in transsexuals in the military.

Nearly 24 years after research indicated that male-to-female transsexuals enlist in the military as a way to exhibit more masculinity, new data on the subject suggests that men who serve in the military are much more likely to identify as transgender than men who do not serve in the military. Following up on his 1988 paper, ?Transsexuals in the Military: Flight into Hypermasculinity,? psychologist George Brown has compiled research of more than 5 million service members that he says cements his earlier research. Brown?s 1988 paper relied on interviews from 11 male service members who identified themselves as female.

?I have data from a study I did in VA that demonstrates a prevalence double that in the nonmilitary population,? Brown told Courthouse News. ?It is unpublished data, pending presentation in San Francisco in the fall. It totally supports my 1988 work. The denominator in the study is over 5 million veterans. So, I am now confident that my early theory was correct.?

Brown, a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and a former member of the Department of Veterans Affairs, could not go into further detail about his findings as the study has yet to be published, citing confidentiality matters.

The study comes four years after the American Psychological Association?s Task Force on Gender Identity and Gender Variance concluded in 2008 that one in almost 12,000 male-to-female transsexuals had gone through some form of gender identity disorder, according to Courthouse News. Regulations from the Department of Defense hold firm to the stance that people who identify themselves as transgender are not allowed to serve in the military.

Others, such as Aaron Belkin, director of UCLA?s Palm Center, an institute for studying the military?s sexual minorities, believe that Brown?s research, which includes the idea that transgender service members volunteer for the more dangerous missions, is ?path-breaking.?

?Warrior identity and military masculinity are so revered in this society that people will do whatever it takes, including dying, for people to prove that they are ?real men,?? Belkin told Courthouse News. ?The fact that many [male-to-female] transgender individuals join the military to prove that they are ?real men? is a sad testament to the culture?s idealization of warrior masculinity.?

Brown?s research is the latest in the ongoing discussion of whether male-to-female transsexuals have a role in the military. The defense team for Bradley Manning, the alleged source behind the enormous intelligence leak that led to WikiLeaks, has pleaded in the past that Manning?s mental health was significantly affected by military standards against transgender troops.

Brown has not indicated when or where the study would be published.

US women?reach Olympics quarters

The United States women's soccer team defeated Colombia 3-0 on July 28 in Group G play. Carli Lloyd, Abby Wambach and Megan Rapinoe scored for the U.S.

United States vs Colombia, Group G

GLASGOW, Scotland (AP) ? Abby Wambach's second-half goal put her atop the all-time list Saturday as the Americans dominated feisty Colombia 3-0, guaranteeing a spot in the quarterfinals of the London Games soccer tournament.

Megan Rapinoe scored in the first half and celebrated by wishing injured teammate Ali Krieger a happy birthday, and Carli Lloyd had a late goal in her return to the starting lineup.

But niceties were otherwise few and far between in a game that included 30 fouls ? with no altercation more painful than when Lady Andrade hit Wambach in the face in the 39th minute.

"I'm running toward the goal to get position, and I got sucker-punched," said Wambach, sporting a black semicircle under her swollen right eye after the game. "It's clear. We have it on film, so it's up to the Olympic committee and FIFA to decide what to do."

Wambach said Andrade kept on taunting in the second half and attempted another blow to the face ? but missed and hit Wambach's neck instead. When Wambach scored in the 74th minute to make the score 2-0, the achievement felt particularly sweet.

"Absolutely. It's interesting ? you think about yourself and what you would do on the street if somebody were to sucker-punch you," Wambach said. "And you have all of the lists of things that you would probably do to retaliate, but this is Olympics and I can't risk getting a red card, I can't risk getting a yellow card. We like to call it 'ice' ? stay ice cold. They're trying to get me to retaliate, and I'm proud of myself for not doing that."

Andrade called the play an accident.

"Nothing happened," she said through an interpreter. "It was just a normal part of the game. We were both running, she ran across me and we collided. I had my hands in the air. It was an accident."

Told that Wambach wants Andrade disciplined by the governing bodies, the Colombian said: "I think they should be, too, because they're the United States. The whistle always goes in their favor. They were hitting us and hitting us, but there was never a whistle."

Wambach looked like her younger self on her goal, sliding onto Tobin Heath's pass to beat two defenders. The 32-year-old striker joked that she was using her "blazing speed."

"Nobody puts balls to me like that anymore," Wambach said. "And she put it through. And I'm like, 'I've got to get there.'"

It was Wambach's sixth Olympic goal, moving her past Mia Hamm and Tiffeny Milbrett, an especially notable achievement given that Wambach missed the 2008 Games with a broken leg. It was also her second score of the tournament and her 140th career international goal, within striking range of Hamm's world record of 158.

The Americans didn't have the early defensive letdowns that they had against France in a 4-2 win three days earlier, but coach Pia Sundhage and the players weren't happy with a first half in which they just couldn't find a rhythm.

"It wasn't the prettiest game," goalkeeper Hope Solo said. "We needed that second goal. The speed of play was a little bit slow."

Rapinoe's goal came in the 33rd minute, a play set up when Alex Morgan intercepted a pass near the Colombia box. Morgan passed to Rapinoe, whose curling 20-yarder sailed over goalkeeper Sandra Sepulveda's outstretched hand.

Lloyd scored for the second time in two games as she started in place of Shannon Boxx. Boxx injured her right hamstring in the win over France and remains day-to-day.

The U.S. has one group game remaining against North Korea in Manchester on Tuesday, a match that will help determine the semifinal pairings. Colombia wraps up with France in Newcastle on the same day.

Vanilla, Strawberry and Fudge Ice Cream Dessert - Creative Culinary

When I decided near the end of 2010 that I needed to find my own ?food blogging? tribe I was unsure what that would mean. It?s clear that some cities on both the east and west coast have a plethora of people who write, photo and do all things food. Here in Denver I felt very much like what I would call ?The Lone Stranger; so instead of lamenting what others had, I decided to start a Meetup group for local food bloggers. Fast forward 18 months and? I?ve been blessed with making some real friendships with people that ?get it.? Our families might not, our friends don?t see what the big deal is but having a relationship with real friends who understand the joy, frustration and sometimes even confusion of the world of food blogging can make my day. We can commiserate when too tired to cook, exalt when for some reason we have a unexplainable traffic spike and in the best way, can be a part of the synergy I craved when I thought of starting a group.

My friend Karen who blogs at Savoury Table gets it; we didn?t know each other that first time we met with a group of others in my home but now we seldom go a week without seeing each other; we talk on the phone several times a week and yes, we can both call with the most mundane food blogging issue and have someone on the other end of the phone that does not roll their eyes as if talking about this ?thing? that we invest so much time in is idiotic. I?m thankful for that. As? importantly we also share opportunities large and small.

One such opportunity recently came about because of Karen?s history with the Blue Bell Creamery brand. They are from Texas and so is she. When she heard their ice cream was now available in Colorado she was as excited as a kid and contacted them about coming to visit their facility. I?m not from Texas and frankly was not familiar with the brand so if her excitement was not matched by mine I did trust her judgement when she asked if I would like to accompany her for a tour and a tasting. Really? An ice cream tasting? Talk about a tough assignment right?? Lea Ann, who writes the Highlands Ranch Foodie blog would be joining us too and the morning before our meeting I queried followers on Twitter wondering who wanted to come. I might have been kidding but they were not..seems we?re going to have to schedule something a LOT bigger the next time!

As it turns out the Blue Bell facility in the Denver area is just minutes from me in Centennial, CO. They are a distribution facility so all of the ice cream is still made and packaged in Texas and shipped here for distribution to local grocers. See that truck?there is a goldmine of ice cream in there!

Blue Bell has a long history, starting in 1901 as the Brenham Creamery Company. First established to make butter from excess cream brought to them by local farmers, they would make small batches of ice cream for themselves but it was not a part of their product line.? It took a few years but eventually the creamery did decide to make ice cream for customers and would deliver it to neighbors by horse and wagon. In 1930 it was decided to change the name to Blue Bell Creameries, after the native Texas bluebell which grows as a wildflower.

In keeping with their that long tradition of making ice cream for employees, they always have ice cream products for employees stocked in a freezer. I just love their saying, ?We eat all we can and sell the rest.? That?s certainly a delicious part of working there; I?m filling out my application very soon!

Blue Bell makes an extraordinary number of flavors; some year round and others seasonal. This month they have a new flavor, Summer Strawberry Pie which is a strawberry ice cream with sweetened strawberries, flaky pie crust pieces and a whipped topping swirl. Can you say YUM? This was just one of the flavors we were able to enjoy at home. I also had some Orange Swirl which I loved?it?s sort of a Creamsicle in a container as it?s orange sherbet and vanilla ice cream.

During our tasting, we were lavished with samples of ice creams available in their half gallon packaging (YES, a real half gallon!) as well as some of their Snack Products.? While most of the snack products seemed marketed for kids, I tasted everything and even though a bit apprehensive I managed the Sour Apple Pops. While not my personal favorite I could sure see how they would appeal to someone who likes those sour type of treats. Filled with enough ice cream I decided I could only try one bite from their Coconut Fruit Bars. Did I love those? Stuffed or not it would have taken every person in that room to have pried that baby from my hands. Not only did I finish it but admit I might have looked around for more. So fabulous!

The day we went to visit was prior to the hellacious heat wave we had in Denver. The part of the facility where the ice cream is stored is kept at twenty degrees below zero. That would have felt so good compared to 107. Next time I hope they?re prepared; I?m coming over and I?m bringing a cot. Add to that respite delicious ice cream as far as the eye can see? Heaven.

Anxious to try making an ice cream treat of some sort at home, we were provided with coupons so that we could choose what appealed to us the most. While I admit I love ice cream, I have a strong affinity towards Vanilla Bean so I stepped WAY outside my comfort zone and and bought some Vanilla Bean with Fresh Strawberries. I decided to make a? dessert in a springform pan that began with a crumble made from ice cream sugar cones, butter, brown sugar and pecans. I layered the crumbs with ice cream and a rich fudge sauce, and topped it all with macerated fresh strawberries. I could tell you I ?recipe developed? for days putting this one together but the truth is I walked past those cones after buying the ice cream and it was a light bulb moment?how perfect would they be for the crumbs? The finished result was so good and so welcome on another overly warm day. Not my ideal for getting the perfect photo but then we eat the food I photograph, replicating this treat using solid shortening was not happening here!

Vanilla, Strawberry and Fudge Ice Cream Dessert

Vanilla, Strawberry and Fudge Ice Cream Dessert

A vanilla and strawberry ice cream frozen dessert combined with a sugar cone crumble and a layer of rich fudge sauce.

Ingredients

Preparation

  1. Put the ice cream in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes to soften.
  2. To Make the Chocolate Fudge Sauce:

  3. Break the chocolate bar up into pieces and put into a microwave safe bowl. Add the half and half and heat on medium speed for 1 minute. Remove and stir and heat on medium for another minute, whisking the half and half into the chocolate to result in a spreadable sauce. Allow to cool completely.
  4. To Prepare the Crust:
  5. Preheat oven to 350 degrees
  6. Break up the sugar cones and put them into a food processor; pulse briefly until the pieces are in large chunks.
  7. Add the pecans, brown sugar and butter to the processor and process the mixture until well blended but not smooth. You want the crumble to have some chunks of both the cones and pecans in the mix.
  8. Spread the mixture on a prepared pan (I cover my pans with aluminum foil to facilitate easy cleanup)
  9. Bake for 5 minutes, remove from oven mix and redistribute the crumbs and bake for another 5 minutes until just lightly brown.Cool Completely.
  10. To prepare the Ice Cream Dessert:

  11. Empty all of the ice cream into a large bowl and stir smooth with a large spoon.
  12. Place your springform pan onto double layers of aluminum and wrap the bottom tightly (the ice cream may leak a bit before it starts to freeze. Yes I found this out the hard way.)
  13. Sprinkle half of the cooled sugar cone crumbs in the bottom of the springform pan.
  14. Layer with half of the softened ice cream.
  15. Sprinkle the rest of the crumbs evenly over the ice cream.
  16. Dribble the chocolate sauce using a spoon over the entire surface of the dessert and then using a knife smooth the chocolate layer. Put the rest of the ice cream into the springform pan, smooth the top and wrap the entire pan in foil.
  17. Put in the freezer and freeze until the ice cream has hardened; overnight if possible.
  18. To Prepare the Strawberries for the Topping:

  19. Slice the strawberries in thick slices, sprinkle with sugar, mix, cover and allow to set until time to plate the dessert.
  20. When ready to serve, remove the springform from the dessert. Put it on a large plate or cookie sheet and flip it over to remove the metal bottom of the form. Using a serving plate, flip again to have the crust on the bottom.
  21. To Serve, cut the dessert into slices and spoon the fresh strawberries on top.

Will Robin appear in 'Dark Knight Rises'?

By Cody Delistraty

Spoiler warning: Possible clues to events in "The Dark Knight Rises" follow. A goofy sidekick who spews eye-rolling catchphrases has no place in Christopher Nolan?s upcoming ?The Dark Knight Rises.? Although the campy Dick Grayson (aka Robin)?doesn't fit?with Nolan?s gritty franchise, fanboys and fangirls still ceaselessly search through featurettes, trailers and TV spots for the slightest of clues that Robin will be a part of the series? finale.

While it is indeed possible that the Boy Wonder could show up in ?Rises,? he?d be altered so substantially to fit the film?s dark, epic tone that he?d be nearly unrecognizable as his comical comic book self. The young, acrobatic sidekick was a more serious character during the so-called Golden Age of Batman from the late 1930s to the early 1950s. Yet, soon thereafter, he was given a campy demeanor, ?Holy (fill in the blank), Batman!? exclamations and a jubilant youthfulness that has defined his character to this day.

Cue Joseph Gordon-Levitt, the baby-faced star of ?(500) Days of Summer.? His?"Dark Knight Rises" role as police officer John Blake could be Robin?s daytime identity? -- at least, that's what Mark Hughes? Forbes piece claims. Yet Hughes? contentions are on less than solid ground. Among other things, he believes the bat-shaped chalk symbols shown in the featurette are drawn by Gordon-Levitt?s character; and, because of their vague resemblance to the Nightwing emblem (another of Robin?s identities) and the fact that, when flipped upside down, the chalk looks slightly like a robin, John Blake therefore must be Robin. ?Mind. Blown.? he writes.

Likewise, a well-circulated freeze-frame from the trailer shows fans of the fictional Gotham Rogues football team holding a ?Rogue? sign with the ?R? in the same shape as the ?R? on DC?s ?Robin? comic books. For many, this is ironclad evidence of Robin?s existence in the ?Rises? world. Empire Online, however, was quick to note, ?most of (the extras) brought their own props and costumes,? so the sign could be just one individual's design choice.

Then again, Gordon-Levitt seems like too?major of an actor?to simply play an idealistic cop, a relatively minimal part.

It?s generally agreed that if Robin were to show up in ?Rises? he would be in the form of his Golden Age self: a useful, responsible assistant to Batman and his fight against evil?-- embodied by Tom Hardy?s Bane in ?Rises.??A dorky, catchphrase-rattling?Robin wouldn't fly.

While it?d be essentially impossible to fully develop the Robin mythos in one movie (even one pushing three hours, as "Dark Knight Rises" does), his introduction?here?would allow Warner Bros. to create a spin-off franchise.

If there?s one sturdy clue that Robin?might show up, it?s the fact that his character can be later mined for profit in subsequent films.

"The Dark Knight Rises" hits theaters on July 20.

This Week in White Sox Minor League Baseball

Donnie Veal

This week:

  • With the call-up of Jhan Marinez, nearly every single reliever on the preseason depth chart already has been brought to Chicago. So now seems an appropriate time to go over the next layer of depth. I'll start with the lefties, where the White Sox still maintain some decent depth in the minors.
  • The one guy who hasn't been to Chicago this season is Donnie Veal. He was probably 5th on the left-handed reliever depth chart and he may still maintain that position (advanced one peg due to Will Ohman's departure) but only just. He's been decent for Charlotte: 39.1 IP, 35 H, 20 BB, 49 K. With a .357 BABIP, the 27 year old can complain of some bad luck - although that is balanced by the good luck of not yet giving up a home run. His somewhat inflated walk rate shows that he hasn't taken to the strike-throwing ways of his compatriots who have gotten promoted.
  • So now we'll get into the guys who have moved into the picture due to attrition. Charlie Leesman may be challenging Veal's position, though he's remained in a starting role for the Knights. He's been effective: 89.2 IP, 90 H, 35 BB, 69 K. Unlike Veal, the 2008 11th round pick appears to be a convert to throwing strikes. Last season for Birmingham, Leesman had 83 walks in 152 innings and, for good measure, added 16 wild pitches and 13 hit batsmen - something which wasn't unusual in his career. While moving up a level, he's made a significant dent in his walk rate and made colossal dents in the other categories. So far, the 25 year old has only 3 wild pitches and 2 hit batsmen. Given that he still has a chance to be a starter, he's a good bet to be at least a September call-up.

Star-divide

  • The recently promoted Pedro Hernandez likely sits next. The 23 year old was fine for Birmingham as a starter and, in two appearances, doesn't seem to have been fazed by Triple-A. While he's pitched as a starter, he probably profiles as more of a middle relief or swingman type. Between the two levels: 80.2 IP, 80 H, 19 BB, 48 K. The White Sox didn't need to convert him to strike-throwing because he's always been stingy with the walks. But his stuff certainly isn't of the swing and miss type, as is evident in his rather low strikeouts.
  • At Birmingham, Santos Rodriguez has seen a bit of a renaissance as a prospect. The lefty was one of the pieces in the Javier Vazquez trade. Given that he really hadn't pitched that much, in part due to frequent but relatively non-serious injuries, the Dominican was extremely raw when the White Sox acquired him. Injury issues continued to sidetrack him and the White Sox were also careful in increasing his workload. He managed to pitch basically a full season in his second go at Winston-Salem in 2011, though he had trouble missing bats. This season, his 8.5 K/9 is still well off some of the eye-popping K rates he had in the lower levels but the 24 year old managed to get back to giving up far fewer hits and is getting his walks to a manageable level. He still has a mid-90s fastball and may well have the highest upside of any of the lefties in the upper minors. For the season: 46 IP, 22 H, 21 BB, 43 K.

SEO ? a Smart Marketing Tool For Online Businesses

The internet has been a veritable boon for the common man. Previously, if we had to find a certain nugget of information on a particular topic, thick volumes of encyclopaedias had to be consulted, or hours would have to be spent leafing through magazines or journals. But, with the advent of easily accessible internet, and the vast reserves of information stored online, we rarely need to put that much of time and energy in the search of information anymore.

The websites or blogs which contain the information which we wish to obtain can be found through any search engine. The main issue here is that some of the websites which are actually equipped with relevant content miss out on the top rankings of the search results page, due to some key faults in their structuring, and the measures employed in rendering them visible to the indexes of the search engine.

This is where SEO or S?gemaskineoptimering (as the Danish like to refer to it), comes in really handy. The acronym SEO stands for search engine optimization and involves the adoption of certain techniques in order to enhance the visibility of a particular web page or website, and to bolster them to the top of the search results page.

The higher the website or webpage or blog features in the results page, the more number of hits it is likely to get and subsequently, the more number of visitors who will visit the website. Most of these websites make money on the stream of visitors to their web pages.

Therefore, the process of SEO can be a smart promotional tool for such websites, and can also be helpful to the users, as they will get better information in lesser time. To learn more about SEO, and its various aspects, you can visit www.uniqpartner.com

Seattle's DocuSign snags $47.5 million in venture capital for growth ...

DocuSign, the Seattle electronic-signature company, has raised a hefty $47.5 million from venture capitalists, the company said Friday.

DocuSign offers a cloud-based software system that allows individuals to read and sign contracts online. Chief Executive Keith Krach says the money will go for both research and development and to expand the business into new areas, specifically Europe.

Krach predicts strong growth in the digital contracts sector. Companies of all types will continue to look for savings by reducing paperwork costs, he says.

?Over the next decade, we see the vast majority of signatures becoming electronic,? Krach said.

The San Fransisco-based venture-capital firm Kleiner, Perkins, Caufield, Byers was the lead financier on this deal. Mary Meeker, a partner in that firm and one of the leading analysts of Internet businesses, was appointed to the DocuSign board Friday.

?DocuSigning is an inevitable way more and more people will finish business faster,? Meeker said in a statement.

The deal was one of two notably large venture-capital financing rounds in the state?s tech sector recently. The other came in March when $50 million flowed into the coffers of the Bellevue-based startup, Apptio.

In the first three months of 2012, there were 26 venture-capital deals in Washington state worth $167 million, according to the quarterly MoneyTree report from PricewaterhouseCoopers and the National Venture Capital Association. DocuSign?s single deal is more than a quarter of that total.

December 2010 was the last time DocuSign tapped into venture capital, when it raised $27 million.

Krach says DocuSign, which has about 130 employees, accounts for about 70 percent of electronic signatures worldwide.

But the company, founded in 2003, still operates in the red. Krach says at this stage of development, the company is focused on growth over profits.

?We?re just stepping on the gas and growing,? he said. He declined to reveal DocuSign?s annual sales figures.

One avenue for growth is in the hefty bundles of government contracts negotiated and signed each day. ?That?s a big target for us,? Krach said.

Processing search warrants, for example, could be made more efficient if it were done electronically, Krach said. That?s what is happening at the Butte County District Attorney?s Office in Northern California.

That agency contracted with DocuSign to use its electronic-signature software. Now, rather than a sheriff?s deputy having to drive a search-warrant application to a judge ? which could be in the middle of the night ? the warrant can be emailed, and the judge can sign off using a smartphone or laptop.

?We?re excited about being able to use 21st-century technology,? said Mike Ramsey, district attorney of Butte County.

At first, however, he was wary of putting sensitive information onto a digital cloud. ?You want to keep the info away from the bad guys, because it could include the names of informants,? he said.

Ramsey had the IT team at Butte County evaluate the software and they told him it was safe.

Asked about the security on DocuSign?s servers, Krach said there is no danger of unauthorized eyes accessing sensitive information.

?All the documents are in the cloud, so they?re totally encrypted,? he said.

(AP) ? President Barack Obama is prodding Congress to "skip the unnecessary drama" and pass his proposal to extend Bush-era tax cuts to families earning less than $250,000 a year but not for those who earn more.

In his weekly radio and Internet address, Obama denounces what he calls "needless delays" and "partisan posturing."

He has been pushing the idea hard all week, but congressional Republicans aren't buying it.

Obama says that will "hold the vast majority of Americans and our entire economy hostage."

In the Republican address, Sen. Rob Portman of Ohio says Obama's proposal would punish many small business owners who report business profits as personal income.

He says that raising taxes on job creators "makes about as much sense as cutting off the water supply during a drought."

    Pentax 645D

Depending on the type of photographer you are, the Pentax 645D ($9,999.95 direct, body only) could be a dream camera or it could be one that completely befuddles you. Event photographers can stop reading here, as the 40-megapixel camera isn't a high ISO monster, can't record video, and doesn't fire off shots in rapid succession. But if you're more of a slow shooter?whether it be studio portraits or landscapes?the weather-sealed 645D ?may be right up your alley. It represents a relatively inexpensive path into medium-format digital photography, as the similar Hasselblad H4D-40 will set you back $16,995, and the Leica S2 is priced even higher at $22,995. Sports and event shooters should turn their attention to our Editors' Choice full-frame D-SLR, the Nikon D4 ($5,995, 4.5 stars), which can fire off rapid shots and capture images in even the most challenging light.

    Design and Features
The 645D is big, and it's styled unlike a typical D-SLR. It has a very deep handgrip, but it's body seems squat thanks to a mirror box that extends out much further than a camera with a 35mm lens mount. The body measures 4.6 by 6.1 by 4.7 inches (HWD) and weighs in at a hefty 3 pounds, 4.2 ounces. Compare this with the Nikon D800 ($2,999.95, 4 stars), a 35mm full-frame D-SLR that measures 4.8 by 5.7 by 3.2 inches and weighs only 2 pounds. Because of its weight, Pentax opted to put two tripod mounts on the body?one for portrait and one for landscape orientation?as some tripod heads won't be able to handle the camera's mass when used in a sideways position.

If you aren't familiar with what differentiates medium-format, full-frame, and APS-C, it's all about sensor size. The Pentax 645D's CCD sensor is 33 by 44mm in size, which is quite a bit larger than the 24 by 36mm sensor found on a full-frame camera like the Canon EOS 5D Mark III ($3,499, 4 stars), or the 18 by 24mm sensor found in a mainstream APS-C D-SLR like the Sony Alpha 77 ($1,999.99, 4.5 stars). Because you need to cover a large physical area with light, lenses have to be bigger, as does the mirror box.?

The 645D is actually based on a lens system that captured images on 60-by-45mm frames of film, and can accept older lenses that were used with Pentax 645 film bodies. If you have the appropriate adapter, you can also mount lenses designed for the Pentax 6x7 system, capturing huge 60 by 70mm negatives on 120 or 220 format film. Aside from pure resolution, which is now available in smaller format cameras like the Nikon D800 , there are plenty of reasons to choose medium format for your work. The larger sensor creates a different relationship between focal length and field of view. The 55mm lens that is often paired with this camera is a true normal?its focal length matches the diagonal measurement of the sensor. The equivalent focal length on a 35mm sensor camera is 43mm. This changes the distance between you and your subject, assuming that you want to maintain the same field of view, altering perspective. The larger sensor also creates a shallower depth of field than the equivalent lens on a smaller format camera, which is desirable for portraits.

If your biceps are up to it, the 645D actually handles quite well as a handheld camera, although I'd recommend using a tripod when you can. Its control layout is excellent, and there are physical control buttons, dials, and switches for almost every common function. The mode dial lets you choose standard shooting modes, there's a dedicated switch to toggle between Spot, Center Weighted, and Matrix metering, and another switch to set the focus point selection to either the center point, manual selection, or automatic operation. Because the camera's mirror is quite large, the vibration it causes when it raises to take a shot can actually cause some vibration that can hurt image quality. If your shutter speed for a shot is low and you're working on a tripod, you can utilize the Mirror Lockup feature?a toggle switch on the right side of the mirror box that causes the mirror to raise and stay raised when you first trip the shutter button. Hitting the shutter again takes the photo. If you really need to minimize vibrations, you can use this in conjunction with the Self Timer to get a rock solid shot.

Control buttons let you adjust the ISO, Exposure Compensation, Color Space, White Balance, Exposure Bracketing, and Drive Mode. There are also buttons to toggle between Raw and JPG shooting, and to select which of the two SD card slots is in use. Current shooting settings are displayed in the eye-level viewfinder, as well as on the large monochrome LCD that adorns the top of the camera?if you're shooting in a dim environment, there's a button you can press to illuminate that display as well.

There's no Live View mode on the 645D?the camera's CCD sensor technology prevents that functionality?but it didn't stop Pentax from putting an excellent 3-inch 921k-dot display on the rear of the camera, directly below the viewfinder eyecup. You can use this to configure the camera via its text-based menu system, or to review photos. The excellent resolution makes it possible to confirm focus, which is important when working with such a large image sensor, as it is less forgiving of slight focus errors.

Landscape photographers should take special note of the camera's weather sealing. Pentax designed the camera so that it could be used in inclement weather, as every port, button, and opening is sealed against the elements. When you couple this with a weather-sealed lens?there are two available at the moment?you have a camera that can shoot in a downpour, windstorm, or worse. With a little trepidation due to the replacement cost, I simulated a downpour in my kitchen sink and placed the 645D under the running water?it performed like a champ, as I was able to pick up and shoot the dripping wet camera immediately.

    Treatment For Wrinkles Under Eyes

What do you see whenever you envision the ?picture of health?? Do you see an individual who?s laid up in a bed, within the 80s, who can?t fend for themselves? As you are able to see this can be a terrific commence to appropriate well being and fitness. But, bear in mind, make these modifications portion of your life; if you would like them to function they?re not temporary.

Should you fill 80% of your diet plan with these foods you?ll be the image of well being and fitness. The mixture of these two way of life adjustments will put you on the path to getting that 80-year-old performing your personal yard function; you?ll be the elder individual that every person is either envious of or dreams to be.

    Dropbox

Dropbox (free for 2GB to $49.99 per month for 500GB) is among the simplest, most elegant file-synchronization tool we've used. The premise behind Dropbox is it gives you access to your files no matter what computer or device you have at hand. The service stores files with strong encryption on multiple servers and lets you get at your files quickly, easily, and for the most part elegantly from virtually any Internet-enabled device.

Dropbox is both a Web-based and downloadable product.?It works equally smoothly on Windows, Mac, Linux, as well as mobile devices including iOS (see our review of Dropbox for iPad, for example), Android, and BlackBerry. Dropbox synchronizes only files stored in a single dedicated folder, so if you prefer to synchronize folders you already have on your system without moving them into the Dropbox folder, Dropbox may not be for you (try SugarSync instead). But its smooth and hassle-free operation makes it one of our Editors' Choices for file-sharing and backup solutions.

    Pricing
As a freemium service, Dropbox offers a few different pricing levels. First, there's Dropbox Basic, which gives you 2GB of storage at no cost. You can earn more free space through referrals (an additional 500MB per person, up to 16GB) and by recommending the app through other social methods, such as connecting your Twitter account.

Second, if you need more space, you can pay $9.99 per month for 100GB (or $99 per year); $19.99 per month for 200GB (or $199 per year); or $49.99 per month for 500GB (or $499 per year). These paid plans are known as Dropbox Pro.

Finally, a tier for small businesses is also available, called Dropbox Teams, for $795 per year, which provides 1 terabyte of storage for five users, plus an additional 200GB for every new user added ($125 more per year per additional person). Dropbox Team account holders also get administrative tools, telephone tech support, and access to unlimited version history.?

If "free" is your magic word, you may be easily swayed toward a very good competing service called CX (4 stars), which offers a generous 10GB free space to start. SugarSync, our other Editors' Choice for file-syncing, gives you 5GB free space, which is more than double what Dropbox offers.

    How to Get Dropbox
Dropbox is available as a download from the company's website. Don't look too hard for it in the Mac App Store because it's not there. The iOS version is in Apple's mobile app market (as it must be), and the Android and BlackBerry apps are in their respective marketplaces, too.

When you download and install the client, you'll have to sign into your Dropbox account or create a new one. Next, the program will create a new folder on your computer called "Dropbox"; you can choose where to install it, or let accept the default location (you can always move it later). A shortcut icon also appears (top menu bar in Mac, system tray in Windows) that lets you open your Dropbox folder with just a double click. From this same icon, you can also reach other preference settings, such as the folder's location and throttles on upload and download speeds.

Like its rival services, Dropbox stores synchronized files in the cloud so they're available on any machine where you've installed Dropbox or that has an Internet connection. Dropbox's storage preserves copies of earlier versions of the files in My Dropbox, so you always have the most current copy on your computers. We like that you can still access older versions (or files you deleted or moved) with just an Internet connection. One attractive feature (also available in SugarSync) is Dropbox's bandwidth-saving ability to upload and download only the parts of files that change during revisions. We made changes in a 125MB file and found that Dropbox only needed to transfer 2 to 3MB of data to update the file. That's a decent bandwidth savings.

NY judge revokes bail after hearing murder threats

(AP) ? An eyewear website operator was imprisoned without bail Wednesday after witnesses said he threatened them with murder or rape when they complained about eyeglass orders.

U.S. District Judge Richard Sullivan in Manhattan ordered Vitaly Borker, 36, jailed as soon as the last of five witnesses from across the country finished testifying about the terror they felt from his threats. The judge said he found "highly credible" their claims that Borker made threats that included murder, rape and, in one instance, slicing off a woman's legs.

Borker pleaded guilty last year to making threats and fraud charges. He was to be sentenced earlier this year but the judge stopped the proceeding and asked to hear from witnesses after Borker's lawyer, Dominic Amorosa, insisted Borker never threatened anyone with rape or death despite claims by numerous individuals that he did. Amorosa cited sales of more than 100,000 pairs of eyeglasses to show that the business was successful. He conceded that Borker made threats but denied he ever said he would kill anyone.

Federal sentencing guidelines call for a sentence of roughly three years in prison, but Sullivan has said he might impose a harsher sentence.

Prosecutors said well over 200 complaints against Borker had been filed with the Federal Trade Commission since 2007 over the operation of his website, DecorMyEyes.com.

Sarah Lauch, testifying from the Chicago area via videotape, said Wednesday that she began getting threats after she tried to cancel her glasses order, taking advantage of the money-back guarantee that was promised on the website.

"It was horrible. It was a nightmare for a month and a half," she said.

Lauch said Borker in a voicemail message said: "I hope you die. I want to slice your legs off." She said she did not save the message.

Marlene Pedesclaux, testifying via videotape from a Marrero, La., courthouse near New Orleans, said she was harassed after she canceled her $149 credit card transaction in 2010 when she was sent damaged sunglasses.

"Yes, a lot of F-bombs went flying," she said of Borker's language.

Pedesclaux said Borker threatened to kill her and her family and to stalk her relentlessly unless she withdrew her canceled order.

"I asked him if it was worth it for $149," she said.

Melissa Kross, another Chicago-area resident, testified in Manhattan that she was threatened through emails and phone calls after she canceled her $200 order for glasses when the glasses never arrived.

"I was terrified," Kross said. "At one point, he had even threatened to kill me."

She said she was so scared that she contacted police and spent $500 on a home security system.

After the testimony, Sullivan summoned court officers from the back of the courtroom to take Borker away even though more witnesses are scheduled to testify next week.

"Thus far, I have found all the witnesses to be highly credible," he said.

Amorosa declined comment as he left court. At an earlier hearing, he blamed Borker's actions on psychiatric problems including bipolar behavior and said his client was "full of remorse for what he did to these people."
