'Breaking Dawn' producer Wyck Godfrey calls nominees Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson a shoo-in — except for one sultry couple. By Kara Warner

With just a few more days left to cast your votes for this Sunday's 2012 MTV Movie Awards, the competition is heating up. And while there are hotly contested races in nearly every category, Best Kiss might be the one to watch this year.
The front-runners are Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson, not only because they're fan favorites but because they've taken home the award for three consecutive years. MTV News recently caught up with "Twilight" producer extraordinaire Wyck Godfrey, who assessed the competition and concluded that Stewart and Pattinson are likely to bag their fourth award — save for one heated smooch between Rachel McAdams and Channing Tatum in "The Vow."
"That might be tough, Channing is having quite a year," Godfrey said diplomatically, before explaining why the kiss in "Breaking Dawn - Part 1" really is this year's best.
"The Best Kiss is when it's really about [a] prelude to sex," Godfrey admitted with a smile. "Sometimes that takes it up a notch and that could be what might get us over the hump.
"I think the build-up for four ['Twilight'] movies, and to watch these two finally have sex is such that when that happens in 'Breaking Dawn,' the audience is fully with it, wants to see every frame of footage," the producer explained of that heated moment between Edward and Bella after their "I dos." "I think that kiss is special because we know what it's leading to."
Aside from this year's nominated kiss, Godfrey said the previously nominated smooch between Bella and Jacob (Taylor Lautner) in "Eclipse" ranks among his favorites.
"I think the fun one was in 'Eclipse' when Taylor and Kristen kiss for the first time in the movies, and I think that was something for fans and [the filmmakers] that was really enjoyable because Rob and Kristen were old hat by then."

Never underestimate the entertainment value of the Hulk Smash.
If you are a Marvel fan, then The Avengers will feel like Christmas. Thanks to the merry doings of the director, Joss Whedon, all your favorite characters are here, as shiny and as tempting as presents under the tree.
Ultimately, it all comes back to Whedon: His clear vision for each character and how they might be profitably intermingled; his unexpected knack for action choreography; his funny, tender, immaculately constructed script.
A spectacle in the grandest sense of the word ...
Whedon, a pop-genre magician best known for Buffy the Vampire Slayer, is a master of viewer manipulation - because he never gives up his own seat in the crowd.
The performances are so well-pitched in The Avengers, meshing with such vividness and ease, that it's tempting to overpraise the good but not great movie that surrounds them.
Whedon's clear fanboy glee is irresistibly contagious to the audience, whether the heroes and villains go at it with fisticuffs or sharp, witty dialogue.
Comic-book movie delivers the goods
By the time the utterly routine (and decidedly endless) finale rolls around, Marvel's The Avengers has unquestionably squandered the potential of its premise and its cast...
Delivers big time with everything longtime fans and newcomers alike could possibly want in a summer blockbuster that definitely surpasses the hype.
This too-long adventure is a sensory overload --- complete with loud, protracted battle scenes and hunky super heroes who provide the necessary eye candy. It's also very funny, and highly entertaining.
There is much humor laced throughout the film, giving it an air of not taking itself too seriously -- which is as it should be in a film of this genre.
The Avengers lives up to every last ounce of hype.
It's a blockbuster that manages to please with intelligence and fun. Whedon makes it look easy.
It's all very smoothly done but comes without a hint of surprise or revelation.
The Main Event is pretty much what you'd expect ? noisy, overlong, wall-to-wall CG effects and arcane superhero lore ... Yes, it's all fairly formulaic, but on a Wow! scale never before experienced.
If you only see one movie this year over and over again, it'll probably be this one.
I have a feeling that this will be a comfort film for myself and many other film geeks for years to come, just like the Indiana Jones or Star Wars movies.
Whedon delivers a thoroughly entertaining compilation of the best of these heroes while never hiding either his giddy love for the characters or the wry wit that has formed the bedrock of his career.
The Avengers will surely rank among the best superhero movies, if not summer blockbusters, of all time.
The Avengers is a fun time at the movies. That's as important as anything.
Whedon gives balance even to relative minnows Hawkeye and the Black Widow by giving each their moment to shine.
The real hero of The Avengers is not Iron Man, Thor or even Nick Fury. It's Joss Whedon.
There's also great chemistry between the principals, who all get their moment in the sun.

On average, a Florida foreclosure can take nearly two years from service of process to final judgment. Lenders have little option but to suffer the costs of this delay in the form of depreciating value of the property, vandalism, accruing property taxes and assessments and increased legal fees. More often than not, this delay can be attributed to stall tactics raised by borrowers? counsel in an effort to allow their clients to retain the benefit of the property for as long as possible.? How, then, can a foreclosing lender minimize this delay?? One way might be through use of Florida Statute 702.10(2). The legislature apparently recognized the need to address unnecessary delays in foreclosure cases back in 1993 when it enacted Florida Statute 702.10(2) in 1993, the intent of which was to remove a mortgagor?s economic incentives for delaying the case.?
The statute gives creditors a right to request that the court ??enter an order directing the mortgagor defendant to show cause why an order to make payments during the pendency of the proceedings or an order to vacate the premises should not be entered.? There are surprisingly few Florida cases that have interpreted the statute. Its constitutionality was challenged on due process grounds and was upheld by the Florida Supreme Court in a case decided in 2000.? More recently, a 2011 case upheld two court orders requiring the mortgagor to make monthly payments totaling in excess of $70,000 during the foreclosure proceedings.? Obviously, that creates significant leverage on a mortgagor not to delay a case!? With that background, let?s consider the statute in more detail and investigate its usefulness to a lender seeking to minimize foreclosure delay.
First, it is important to note that the statute is limited to actions involving non-residential real estate.? Second, the statute requires that the mortgagor be the occupant of the property.? In other words, investment property leased to third parties will not qualify.? If those criteria are met, the statute applies and the bank can file a motion in which it asks the court to enter an order directing the mortgagor defendant to ?show cause? (e.g. to demonstrate) why it should not be ordered by the court to either make payments to the lender or vacate the premises during the foreclosure case.? While somewhat vague, the statute seems to imply that the court must enter the order upon proper motion by the foreclosing lender and further that this order can be entered without the need for a hearing.? The order, once entered by the court, will direct the mortgagor to appear at a hearing and present its argument as to why it should not be ordered to either make payments or vacate the property while the case is pending.? If the court determines that the lender is likely to prevail in the foreclosure case, the statute says the court shall enter an order requiring either payment or surrender of possession.? The payments, if so ordered, will be made at intervals and amounts as provided for in the note secured by the mortgage prior to its acceleration or maturity.
Sounds good for lenders, right?? Well, there are a few drawbacks.? First, once the order to show cause is obtained, it must be served (as set forth in the statute) on the mortgagor.? As many lenders now know, significant delays can occur while trying to perfect service of process on defendants.? Even with owner-occupied property, it can be difficult to locate the proper person for personal service.? Once served though, the defendant is required to respond or could be deemed to have waived that right resulting in the court ordering payments or surrender of possession.? Second, the court must find that it is likely that the lender will prevail in the foreclosure case.? This statutory language is vague enough to allow a considerable amount of discretion in making that determination.? Since the remedy being sought is harsh, it is possible that some courts will deny relief under the guise that the probability of prevailing has not been established.? Finally, even if the court enters an order in favor of the lender, the mortgagor can stay enforcement of the order.? However, to do so, the mortgagor must post a monetary surety bond in an amount equal to the mortgage balance plus unpaid taxes and any forced placed insurance premiums.? The cost of posting this bond can be significant and this also acts to provide leverage to the lender.?
The Rogers Towers Banking and Financial Services Practice Group considers F.S. 702.10(2) to be a viable tool to increase leverage and reduce delay in foreclosures of owner occupied commercial properties.? It is tempered to an extent by the opportunity for a court to apply discretion in determining whether the standard has been met.? Still, we are actively involved in evaluating our client matters to determine whether to pursue this remedy.
There are many good reasons you should use a water based penetrating concrete sealer. First of all, this sealant is really effective. It penetrates deeply into the concrete, making it sturdier, providing it reinforced protection. As you may have noticed, concrete surfaces without coatings are damaged easily. This is because they have no protective covering that prevents them from cracking, fading, or collapsing.
Although your driveway and walkway are designed to withstand heavy traffic, they will still deteriorate over time. If you do not protect them with water based penetrating concrete sealer, they will become uneven and less functional. The total cost of repairs might even exceed your budget. So if you want to avoid such expenses, you should concrete sealing. Nothing can last forever, but this sealant can make your property last longer.
Water based penetrating concrete sealer is widely available and easy on the pocket. You can find it nearly everywhere, from hardware stores to online stores. They are very affordable, so they will not break your budget. They are also easy to apply. You just need a brush, a sprayer, or a roller, and you are ready to work. There is no need to hire a constructor. You can save money by doing the work yourself.
In addition, a water based penetrating concrete sealer does not contain harmful ingredients. It does not have solvents that can add to the destruction of the environment. It can even be thrown away like regular garbage. Just make sure that you leave it out in the sun to dry completely. Never throw concrete sealer leftovers while still wet. Even if they are environmentally acceptable, it is still necessary to follow proper disposal guidelines.
Also, it is strongly advised to choose a sealer that complies with the standards of FDA, OSHA, VOC, and EPA. Water based penetrating concrete sealer dries fast. If you only have the weekend to reconstruct your driveway, you are in luck. This sealant will dry within four hours or even less. It would be best to leave it for a few more hours, though; but you can certainly use it immediately once your weekend is over.
When applying the concrete sealer, make sure that you remove all visible debris on your property. Mop away stains and spills, so your driveway or walkway will look flawless after you have coated it. Use a commercial cleaner for stubborn stains that will not go away. Never leave any dust or dirt particles behind because this will be trapped in the sealant. Surely, you do not want these elements to be preserved on your property.
Furthermore, this type of sealant is breathable so it does not trap any efflorescence. It keeps concrete properties dry. It allows water vapor transmission, which means that it releases trapped moisture. This is a really good advantage because most concrete driveways and walkways are damaged due to efflorescence, scaling, and spalling. Concrete sealing is needed in order to prevent water from being trapped inside the concrete and freezing during the winter.
SAO PAULO, Brazil ? The Brazilian government is pressing forward with controversial legislation that critics say will lead to widespread destruction of the Amazon rain forest.
After months of heated discussion, President Dilma Rousseff on Monday presented a final version of the bill that was heavily influenced by the country's powerful agricultural lobby.
The update to the country's 1965 Forestry Code would reduce both the amount of vegetation landowners must preserve and the future penalties paid for those who currently flout environmental laws. After valuable wood is sold, much of the land in deforested areas ends up being cleared for grazing cattle and agriculture.
"The project approved in Congress is the fruit of a torturous legislative process, made to serve the interests of a small part of society that wants to increase the possibility of deforestation and give amnesty to those who have already cut it down illegally," said Maria Cecilia Wey de Brito, head of the World Wildlife Fund in Brazil.
Rousseff suffered a surprise defeat in April at the hands of Congress' ruralista voting bloc, which represents farming interests. The lawmakers managed to push through a version of the bill that rolled back environmental protections and gave amnesty to past violators.
Since then, she has faced widespread pressure from those opposed to the changes ? scientists, public figures, celebrities, as well as business leaders and politicians ? to veto the bill. However, facing long odds of winning approval for tougher environmental legislation in Congress, she announced Friday only a partial veto, leaving it much more lenient than the laws currently in place.
Though Rousseff enjoys widespread support among Brazilians, her party controls only 15% of the seats in a Congress divided between more than 20 parties. Rousseff often has difficulty corralling a coalition to support her positions and may not have been able to hold back revisions to the forestry law any more than she did, analysts say.
"In environmental terms, the law should have been vetoed completely," Luiz Antonio Martinelli, agronomist at the University of Sao Paulo, told the Folha de Sao Paulo newspaper. "But we know that would be very difficult politically."
Over the weekend, activists from Greenpeace blocked a shipment of pig iron used by the U.S. steel industry from leaving a port, saying its production relied on illegal deforestation and slave labor. Q'orianka Kilcher, the American actress who played Pocahontas in the 2005 film "The New World," participated last week by climbing the anchor chain of a cargo ship to stop it from docking. The protest was meant raise awareness of the issue outside of Brazil, which will host the United Nations' "Rio+20" environmental conference next month.
For decades the Amazon rain forest, the world's largest, has been shrinking steadily. The forest is so vast that the Brazilian government monitors the rate of deforestation using satellite imagery.
The destruction had slowed in the last decade under tougher government enforcement, but at the same time the country has lived through an economic boom fueled largely by selling commodities. The producers of products that rely on cleared land, such as soybeans and beef, have increased the country's monetary wealth and become politically more powerful.
Environmentalists fear the new bill those interest groups helped shape could bring Brazil back to the bad old days of rapid clearing.
The government insists that the new bill, which is likely to pass, does not grant full amnesty to those who broke previous rules. But many who ignored them will have little reason to regret it.
This month, activists and journalists took a small plane over what used to be the forest in the northeastern state of Maranhao, snapping pictures of widespread illegal logging in the few remaining patches of forest in the region.
Amnesty means that "the small percentage of landowners that actually obeyed the law will end up being the clowns of history," said Tatiana Carvalho of Greenpeace Brazil. "Everyone else will get the message that they can continue on chopping down without fear."
Handling these situations is very difficult and may require the help of a psychologist, but in any case we must highlight the importance of "educating the person with diabetes (and your family), because only when you understand your condition becomes your responsibility and confronts him. Physicians can provide information and offer treatment, but the final decision will always be in the hands of those who suffer the problem, and the more you understand their disease, the better your prospects. "
It also explains that in recent times has emerged a figure which can be transcendent in coming years: the diabetes educator. This character can take care of the patient emotional support and teach new skills to improve the treatment, and it "can play an important role because it provides individualized treatment, closer to the person.
And above all, because they have the ability to help the patient to accompany him, to answer your questions or how to prepare meals and perform self-measurement of glucose."
To be clear, it is worth noting that a person with diabetes may require measurement of up to four times a day your blood sugar level, because this could vary by factors as diverse as exercise, diet, stress or illness. The educator may be the best person to teach the patient to properly use your glucose meter and with the help of this instrument, develop the skill to combine their resources either therapy (insulin, drugs, and diet) to prevent or have a lot of progress slower complications of the disease.
And with good instruction on self-monitoring the patient may face everyday situations with greater certainty and favorably resolved: * If you start having chills, dizziness, palpitations, poor coordination of movements, tremors and confusion, the use of the monitor can show that your glucose levels have fallen (hypoglycemia) and it is better to take a drink with sugar. * Conversely, if sleepiness, hunger, excessive thirst, blurred vision, breathing and urinating frequently, the measurement can reveal excess blood glucose (hyperglycemia) and the need to consult your specialist to make an adjustment in the treatment. * When the patient is forced to take medication to deal with illness or change of diet (eating out or going on holiday), self-monitoring helps you see how your body reacts in such circumstances. * It could also help you decide if at some point it is safe to exercise, drive or perform other tasks in the required concentration.
New mentality Recent research on social and psychological aspects that influence adherence to therapy have given us some surprising results as indicating that not all the responsibility lies with the person concerned, but also physicians.
"The doctors best placed to address this problem are the endocrinologist or internist, but the number of patients is such that many cases are treated by general practitioners, which does not always have adequate training. I think we should focus to physicians who specialize in the subject is still updating, and also to those who know least receive good preparation. "
In conclusion, "The picture of diabetes in world is a challenge and we can not deny, as there is a reality and statistics that reflect the progression of obesity and incidence of the disease. It may seem a startling fact, but that does not mean that we do something. With education and interaction between specialists and patients can undertake real change. " ?
Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake has donated use of her office's skybox at Oriole Park at Camden Yards to 27 nonprofit or charitable organizations this year, including her daughter's school, according to a list provided by the mayor's office.
The Parent Teacher Organization at Mount Washington Elementary/Middle School auctioned off tickets to the box this month, raising $1,000 as part of the group's "Swing Into Spring" event, officials said.
Mayoral spokesman Ryan O'Doherty said that Rawlings-Blake routinely makes the skybox available to nonprofit organizations and that any nonprofit is free to request its use for fundraising purposes.
"This year, as in years past, the organizations contact the Mayor's office to make the requests which are handled as they are received," he wrote in an email. "Any Baltimore area charitable or nonprofit organization may contact the Mayor's Office and make a request at any time."
But government watchdog group Common Cause said the mayor should institute a formal policy to avoid any appearance of favoritism.
"It really should be the people's skybox," said James Browning, the regional director for Common Cause. "There should be a formal application process, so people can be confident that there is no favoritism." He called the box a "valuable asset" that could help a struggling charity.
O'Doherty said six schools have been granted access to the box for fundraising purposes this year. They are Mount Washington Elementary/Middle School, where Rawlings-Blake's daughter attends; Federal Hill Preparatory School, where O'Doherty's son attends; Grace and Saint Peter's school, an Episcopal school in Mount Vernon that the mayor attended; and three all-girls Catholic schools ? Catholic High School, Mercy High School, and the Institute of Notre Dame.
Mayoral spokesman Ian Brennan said O'Doherty was not aware of the request for tickets for Federal Hill Preparatory School.
At Mount Washington, neither the PTO president nor the school principal responded to requests for comment.
This year, the mayor's office also donated use of the baseball skybox to Center Stage for an auction co-sponsored by The Baltimore Sun and to the Kennedy Krieger Institute, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Mercy Medical Center, Village Learning Place and the American Heart Association, among other groups.
In contrast,Rawlings-Blake's guests in the city's skybox for last season's eight Ravens home games typically included a small circle of city employees, business leaders, campaign donors, and family members, The Baltimore Sun reported in February. The Orioles have an 81-game home season.
"When a request comes in, and tickets are available, they are provided in the order they are received," O'Doherty said of the Orioles tickets.
Sonia Socha, executive director of the South Baltimore Learning Center, which promotes adult literacy, said Rawlings-Blake attended the organization's fundraiser in March ? in which the group raised $5,000 by auctioning off the skybox tickets.
"This was a big year for us," said Socha. "The mayor spoke about how important adult literacy is for her. It made people more inclined to spend."
Socha said she's been requesting city skybox tickets for fundraising events since the administration of Mayor Martin O'Malley. She said a well-connected board member told her they were available.
"We would never have thought of it had it not been for a board member who suggested it," Socha said. "We would have never known it was available. It's wonderful. We really appreciate having the donations."
Institute of Notre Dame spokeswoman Lillian Knipp said the box raised nearly $2,000 for the school. It was won by principal Ann Seeley.
Governor O'Malley uses his boxes at the Ravens and Orioles' stadiums in a similar manner to Rawlings-Blake. His guests at Ravens games this past season included key politicians, campaign donors, and the family and friends of government officials. But tickets for nearly 40 percent of Orioles games were given to charities, schools, hospitals and nonprofit institutions last season, according to the governor's office.
O'Malley has no formal process for choosing whom to invite to his box, which is provided to the governor under the lease agreement for the stadium, but he uses it to promote "economic development, federal relations, legislative outreach," according to his spokesman.
The Baltimore Sun requested lists of skybox attendees after the mayor's use of the Ravens skybox was thrust into the spotlight. She rescinded an offer of tickets to City Council President Bernard C. "Jack" Young for the Jan. 11 playoff game against the Houston Texans. The move came after Young publicly criticized her efforts to plan another Grand Prix IndyCar race.
Brennan said Rawlings-Blake has said businesses who participate in the "Hire One Youth" campaign this summer will be added to a raffle for tickets to the city's Ravens skybox next season.

PUERTO VALLARTA, Mexico ? Bud weakened to a tropical storm Friday as heavy rain began to pelt a string of laid-back beach resorts and small mountain villages on Mexico's Pacific coast south of Puerto Vallarta.
The National Hurricane Center in Miami, Florida, said that maximum sustained winds that were once blowing at 115 mph (185 kph) had slowed to 60 mph (95 kph) by Friday night. The government of Mexico changed the hurricane warning for the coast of Mexico from Manzanillo to Cabo Corrientes to a tropical storm warning. Hurricane watches were also discontinued.
Forecasters said the storm would continue to weaken and the center would move over land late Friday or Saturday.
Heavy rain started Friday night in Puerto Vallarta and rainfall was expected to accumulate from 6 to 10 inches in many spots. Mexican authorities canceled school in 11 communities expected to be hit by heavy rains in Jalisco state. Emergency workers prepared emergency shelters, many of them in empty school classrooms.
The state was placed on high Friday night as the storm center neared land, and emergency officials in Puerto Vallarta said they were closely monitoring villages that had been hit by flooding and mudslides in previous hurricanes and tropical storms.
Rains and 6-foot (2-meter) high waves pelted Melaque, a beach town on the Bahia de Navidad, about 60 mph (100 kilometers) east of the sparsely populated stretch of coast where the storm's center was expected to come ashore during the night.
Category 2 Hurricane Jova hit the area in October, killing six people and flooding parts of Melaque and neighboring Barra de Navidad.
"There was a lot of flooding in the whole area, and we lost electricity," recalled Rafael Galvez, manager of the Hotel Bahia in Melaque. But this week, he said, only seven of his hotel's 26 rooms were occupied, and none of the hotel's guests were planning to leave.
The hurricane center said the storm would hit land, move a little inland and then make a U-turn and head back out into the Pacific. Rain, rather than wind, could be the big threat, with the center warning of the "potential for life-threatening mudslides" in steep terrain inland.
The government of Jalisco state prepared hundreds of cots and dozens of heavy vehicles such as bulldozers that could be needed to move debris.
Officials in Puerto Vallarta said they were in close contact with managers of the hundreds of hotels in the city in case tourists need to move to eight emergency shelters, but on Friday night they said that appeared unlikely. It said the sea along the city's famous beachfront was calm, but swimming had been temporarily banned as a precaution.
A separate storm was pounding much of Cuba and the Bahamas on Friday. Cuba's civil defense agency reported that a French citizen, Alain Manaud, and Silvestre Fortun Alvarez of Cuba were missing after trying to cross rain-swollen rivers, according to the government's Prensa Latina news agency. It said a search for them was continuing.
An official at the French Embassy in Havana said Manaud was 66 and had lived in Cuba for several years. He spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to comment publicly.
The agency quoted government meteorologists as saying more than 20 inches (500 millimeters) of rain had fallen on parts of the central province of Sancti Spiritus.
The hurricane center reported that the system had about a 70 percent chance of becoming a tropical or subtropical cyclone.

RABAT, Morocco?? Morocco's glittering Mawazine international music festival wraps up this weekend with performances by Mariah Carey and Lenny Kravitz, after nine days of showcasing the North African kingdom's cool factor ? even as dissident Moroccan artists are imprisoned for their anti-establishment sentiments.
The 11-year-old "Rhythms of the World" festival in the capital Rabat has always highlighted Morocco's contradictions as the country spends millions to lure top world artists to perform at generally free concerts, while much the country remains mired in poverty.
In past years the festival has been attacked by Islamists for inviting gay performer Elton John in 2010 and by activists for the cost of attracting Shakira and other high profile acts in 2011, but this year the theme of protest is freedom of expression.
Just a week before the festival began, Human Rights Watch slammed Morocco for sentencing a rapper to a year in prison for lyrics deemed insulting to police ? a common theme in rap music elsewhere in the world.
"Morocco hosts one famous international music festival after another each spring, but meanwhile it imprisons one of its own singers solely because of lyrics and images that displease the authorities," Sarah Leah Whitson, Mideast director of the group said in a statement. "Morocco should be known as a haven for world music, not for locking up singers with a political message."
Moroccan rapper Mouad Belghouat, known as El-Haqed, or "The Enraged" was convicted on May 11 of "showing contempt" to public servants with his song "Dogs of the State" about police corruption. He is known for his political activism and vitriolic songs attacking social injustice, the monarchy and corruption.
A week later, dissident poet Youssef Belkhdim was convicted of attacking police ? a charge he denies ? at a sit-in he organized in support of Belghouat and sentenced to two years in prison.
The two men belonged to Morocco's pro-democracy February 20 movement that last year brought tens of thousands into the streets protesting corruption and calling for political reform.
The extravagant sums spent on the Mawazine have been a mainstay of the movement's slogans. Festival organizers maintain that the Mawazine's estimated $7 million price tag is worth it because it improves Morocco's image abroad and gives people at home access to music from around the world. The festival is funded largely by corporate sponsors with strong ties to the state.
"It's a celebration. It's a celebration of the city, a celebration of Morocco and it reflects a bit Morocco's good life to the world," said program director Mahmoud Lemseffer. "It is a vehicle to present the image of our country, of its hospitality and tolerance."
Tens of thousands attend each of the festival's eight venues which present Arabic music, Moroccan music, music from sub-Saharan Africa as well as international acts, which this year included Evanescence, the Scorpions, Gloria Gaynor, Nigel Kennedy and Jimmy Cliff.

Most of the acts have free sections open to the public and on Tuesday, families strolling along Rabat's Bouregreg river stopped to listen to Beninian songstress Angelique Kidjo belt out classics from South African diva Mariam Makebe and talk about the struggle against apartheid.
But for critics, there is irony in punishing artists at home while hosting international ones known for their support of freedom of expression. Lenny Kravitz, for instance, has striven in song after song to confront America's tortured attitude about race.
"I think that people should really say what they feel ? everybody has the right to speak their mind, you see how things change in places where people were once condemned," said Kravitz at a press conference Thursday when asked about politics in music. "When I was in Brazil a couple of years ago, I was talking with (musician and activist) Caetano Veloso who dealt with that same thing, who did jail time ? and now he has made a difference."
Salif Traore of the Ivorian band Magic System said that for African artists, speaking truth to power and freedom of expression is what their music is all about.
"We in Africa, we say that artists, musicians and singers are the eyes, ears, and mouths of the people," he told The Associated Press, when asked about his views on the El-Haqed case.
Rachid el-Belghiti, who heads a national anti-Mawazine campaign, also contests the government's assertion that it's supporting culture in Morocco with this festival, countering that it's really just about making the country look good abroad.
He said the Mawazine, which is run by a close confidant of King Mohammed VI, eats up the lion's share of corporate sponsorship so that little is left for other festivals around the country.
As millions are being spent to lure in big name acts, local theaters and dance schools around the country are closing down because of a lack of funding.
"A country which puts its artists in prison simply for expressing themselves with their voice or their instruments cannot pretend to support culture," he said. "That's impossible."

Farmington High School is making a change at the top of its defending state champion boys soccer program.
Felix Chacon, who coached the Scorpions to the 4A state title in 2011 and was a member of the coaching staff during the team's 2009 state championship run, was removed from the position on Friday.
"Farmington High has made a decision to make a change with our boys soccer team," said Farmington High athletic director Don Lorett. "We have great kids and will move forward and continue to strive for success."
That was the only explanation Chacon said he received via email from the school on Friday.
"Apparently the only direction from the top is downhill. In order to keep coaching at FHS, one must not aspire to achieve new heights or be successful," Chacon said. "My commitment, credentials and experience with the FHS boys soccer team speaks louder than any snake hissing in the grass."
Lorett declined to comment on the reasons for Chacon's dismissal.
"It is discriminatory in nature and propagated by personal and political vendettas of an unloyal and insecure authority," Chacon said.
Chacon, who also earned two different coach of the year honors during his tenure with the Scorps, will continue to teach for Farmington Municipal Schools, and said he will turn his focus on coaching his kids.
"I am going to take a break and dedicate my time to my young daughters' soccer development as well as youth development in the community via
club soccer, and focus on my teaching responsibilities for FMS and the University of New Mexico."
The Scorpions boys soccer program has been highly successful, sending two players in three years to the UNM Lobos program along with its state championship success.
Charles Klepac, a Scorpion senior captain on the 2011 team and Lobo commit, was taken back by the news on Friday.
"It certinaly surprised me. He was a good coach and I honestly don't see why he lost his job," Klepac said. "He knew the game and taught all of us a lot of things I believe."
Ryan Reeves, another a senior captain on the 2011 team, said the lessons learned from Chacon went beyond soccer.
"He lost the job? And after a state championship? I felt like he pushed us to new boundaries that we didn't know we could go. He not only helped us grow on the field but also as individuals," Reeves said. "He was a great coach."
Marketers in the internet domain may utilize a variety of approaches for their PPC Campaign Management facility. Their ultimate goal is to gain significant internet traffic by advertising their business through the vast online network that is the internet. Pay per click marketing is one of the modern electronic methodologies that may be employed to promote several types of products and services that a company may offer. Pay per click, which is commonly referred to as PPC, when used as an acronym, is a form of advertisement that is utilized in the endorsement of goods as well as services. This type of advertisement is characterized by the fact that advertisers can place their advertisements on different web portals where the payment of these advertisers is directly linked to the number of clicks that are generated by the advertisement.
When used effectively, PPC campaign management will deliver rather effective and positive results. This is due to the fact that Internet advertising may be an extremely influential tool and can be used very effectively to trademark any business entity. This is due to the fact that it allows one to launch a positive image of any venture in the internet domain that can give a myriad of persons a positive view of any company. Owing to this possibility, this type of promotion has the potential to garner vast internet traffic to your website. Moreover, not only is it a very efficient mode of brand endorsement, it is also an excellent cost effective means for the promotion of any brand.
The PPC campaign management may be conducted effectively by using some very simple, but extremely effective steps. First, the advertiser must take into consideration significant details about the budget that has been allocated for a project. An advertisement may then be formulated against this background with the company?s goods and services that are being promoted in mind. The promotional message may contain significant keywords in the text. The message that will include texts is far more accessible by internet search engines such as Google, Yahoo! and Bing. This is in contrast with just using images in a promotional message.
It is suggested that a keyword analysis is done for a PPC campaign management project. Several tools may then be used to conduct a keyword analysis. After this is successfully done, a marketer may select the web portals that will be used to sponsor the advertisement. If one chooses to use larger web portals, the result may be more concise, as wonderful guidance is offered to users as well as greater market coverage. These web portals are generally more expensive to use for PPC campaign management.
An alternative to this is for one to write the headline for the advertisement. Ideally, the headline for a PPC campaign management should be a few words. The primary aim of this is to gain interest from customers for the message that is being delivered. This can be done by appealing to the emotions of potential customers. Importantly, this ought to have the potential to deliver sales. These steps will ensure that significant internet traffic is obtained and thus successful PPC campaign management will result. PPC campaign management incorporates several aspects of modern technological and electronic advancement. Moreover, it is an essential part of any worthwhile Internet marketing promotion.
This is because quality PPC campaign management is essential since it provides both exposure as well as access to essential information. Consequently, it is a fluid phenomenon that is on the cutting edge of modern electronic marketing innovation and, as such, is a noteworthy method for improving targeted internet traffic to any website. Owing to this, PPC campaign management is undoubtedly innovation in motion.

When I first got into the venture capital business in the early 90s, it seemed to me that half of the deals I brought to the partnership were dismissed with the line "sure it's cool but what the heck do they do if Microsoft decides to enter this business." Today the role of the dominant player is played by Google (and increasingly Facebook). So as an investor, one has to consider how a potential portfolio company can thrive in the shadow of Google. No where is this more true than in Search.
So, as you can imagine, we had a lot of interesting conversations in the process of evaluating our latest investment in Gabriel Weinberg's alternative search engine,DuckDuckGo. Our confidence in Gabriel and DuckDuckGo is informed by having watched the decline of Microsoft's hegemony in the 90's.

Minister announces 250M strategic investment in UK biosciencePublic release date: 24-May-2012 [ | E-mail | Share ]
Contact: Rob Dawson rob.dawson@bbsrc.ac.uk 01-793-414-694 Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council
Minister for Universities and Science, David Willetts, will today announce substantial funding that will ensure the UK's bioscience research base remains globally competitive and at the forefront of meeting the grand challenges faced by society in the coming decades. The announcement will be made by the Minister during a visit to the Babraham Research Campus, near Cambridge, and highlighted again during a major speech at the University of East Anglia in Norwich.
The Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) has allocated 250M as the first phase of five year strategic investment programmes. This includes 26 strategic science programmes and 14 key national research capabilities, to be delivered by eight of the UK's world-leading bioscience research institutes and their university partners.
The investment will help the UK to meet challenges such as sustainably feeding the growing world population, finding alternatives to dwindling fossil fuels and supporting an ageing society to remain healthy for longer.
Commenting on the funding, Minister for Universities and Science, David Willetts said: "This 250 million investment from BBSRC for the first phase of major five year research programmes will sustain excellent science at some of the UK's leading institutes and universities. This will drive growth, support highly skilled jobs and keep the UK at the very forefront of bioscience, with benefits ranging from healthcare to energy and global food security."
The Minister made the announcement in a speech during a visit to see the progress being made in the development of the Babraham Research Campus. The campus, a BBSRC National Research and Innovation Campus, is home to the Babraham Institute, one of the institutes in receipt of today's funding.
The institutes receiving funding have a vital role in supporting BBSRC's mission to further scientific knowledge to promote economic growth and job creation in important sectors such as food, farming, renewables and pharmaceuticals. The grants will support research, key national scientific infrastructure, knowledge exchange, public engagement and institute development.
Professor Douglas Kell, BBSRC Chief Executive, said: "By almost all measures the UK has the world's best bioscience research base. BBSRC's strategic funding of institutes with distinct missions and unique national facilities is one of the reasons we achieve this. However, being the best doesn't mean much unless you make a difference in the world. Through their close links with industry and policy makers, and through engaging the public, the institutes are at the forefront of translating fundamental bioscience into products, services and advice.
"This investment is a major commitment to realising the potential of a bio-based economy in the UK. This is only possible through a sustainable, excellent fundamental research base with the right people, skills and facilities."
For the first time BBSRC's funding to the institutes has been awarded through a number of distinct strategic programme grants to each institute and in some cases across institutes and university partners to support five year research programmes. These have been combined with grants to support vital national research capabilities and with support for knowledge exchange, commercialisation and embedded activities, such as public engagement. The funding follows an assessment process, including independent peer review, of Institute science and programmes including knowledge exchange, public engagement and strategic HR.
Institute Strategic Programme Grants
Highlights from the 26 Institute Strategic Programme Grants (ISPGs) include:
Wheat pre-breeding programme at the John Innes Centre (JIC), Rothamsted Research and University partners - to build on BBSRC funding in the UK's first wheat pre-breeding programme in two decades. This programme will support the development of new varieties of wheat for farmers by broadening the number of traits available for breeding.
Investment in a vector-borne diseases programme at Institute for Animal Health (IAH). This programme will investigate economically important diseases of livestock that are spread by insects to improve control strategies. Diseases that will be tackled by the IAH programme include Bluetongue and African Horse Sickness.
Funding for a programme in integrated gut health. This programme will be led by Institute of Food Research (IFR) in partnership with two universities. It aims to improve food safety by increasing our understanding of the working of the intestinal tract and how food-borne bacteria can cause human disease.
Immunology programme at the Babraham Institute focused on lymphocyte homeostasis. This programme will study the role of lymphocytes in the immune system and how a regulated state is maintained by the body. This will have important implications for supporting healthy longer lives as the population ages.
National Capabilities
14 important strategic UK capabilities will be developed or maintained by this funding. These include:
ARK-Genomics at The Roslin Institute funding to support this national capability in livestock animal genomics. ARK-Genomics investigates the genetic factors that influence yield, food safety, animal production and health. Outputs from the centre feed into breeding programmes of industrial partners.
Long-term experiments at Rothamsted Research - funding to support historic and scientifically important long-term experiments, some of which have been running continuously for over 150 years. These experiments provide important insights into the long-term sustainability of various cropping systems, particularly the impacts of intensive agriculture and environmental pollution, on sustainable agricultural systems, especially nutrient cycling, soil quality and plant diseases.
The Genome Analysis Centre (TGAC) will receive investment which will be used to ensure the institute can continue to deploy the latest advanced high-throughput sequencing and bioinformatics for the UK bioscience community. The funding will also support the development of new approaches to storing and handling the huge amounts of data these new techniques generate.
BBSRC Crop Phenotyping Centre at Institute for Biological, Environmental and Rural Sciences, Aberystwyth University (IBERS) investment to establish a new national centre in plant phenotyping. This resource will allow researchers, industry and policymakers to access rapid analyses of different traits in plants and crops that have important industrial and agricultural uses. This will help us to overcome significant bottlenecks in current crop breeding approaches by relating desirable traits to their underpinning genetics.
Funding totals
The institutes being funded and the total* amounts allocated are:
Institute of Biological, Environmental and Rural Sciences, Aberystwyth University (IBERS) 13M
The Genome Analysis Centre (TGAC), Norwich 19M
The Roslin Institute, University of Edinburgh 23M
Institute for Animal Health (IAH), Pirbright 38M
Institute of Food Research (IFR), Norwich 29M
Babraham Institute, Cambridge 37M
John Innes Centre (JIC), Norwich 42M
